Dog show

Dog show is a competitive exhibition of various dog breeds that are closely judged to the established standard of specification for each breed. A dog show can also be named as a breed show. Every participant is judged to qualify the breed standards. In the dog show the judges justify the individuality of the dog. They confirm the specification of particular dog breed to which they belong. In general, public refer to any event involving dogs.

The criteria for attaining the championship in a dog show differ from one place to another. For winning the championship in the dog show, the dog has to earn points in different levels of competition. The number of points differs based on number of dogs participating, type of show, and more. The champion of the show is determined based on the winners of each lower level.

The dogs are divided by breed and each breed is again divided into classes based on age and sex. In the competition dogs means male ones and bitches means female dogs. So within a breed we have two groups of each gender under different age such as puppies, junior, intermediate and open.

The winners of each class in each sex compete for best dog or best bitch. Best dog is also named Challenge dog or challenge bitch. The second winner of each class is known as reserve challenge Dog or Reserve Challenge Bitch. The Best in Show is determined based on the competition between the winners of each group. There multi-breed shows as well. In this the winner of each breed is determined. This is known as General Specials.

Dog shows takes place in different parts of the world throughout the year. The competitions create more enthusiasm to the dog breeders. There are number of small local dog shows as well as big dog shows which allow only limited entries to the dogs. These dogs should have earned the championship at least once in their lifetime. The award Best in Show or Best in Breed is used to evaluate the dog's as well as the breeder's reputation to the top list. The best known dog shows are Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show and Crufts.
